Last week I got an email asking if I would give a mention to "Something Cakey" on my blog.

Something Cakey are Cake Toppers. Ive never heard or seen of them before but once I started reading the website, I thought it was a fantastic idea.

So Nicola from Something Cakey and I have been exchanging emails all week. I told her I was happy to give a mention but it would be better for me to try the product out.

So she was on the case, told me to select a topper that my daughter would like and delivered them as soon as she could.

Receiving the Cake Topper

The Cake Toppers on an A4 sheet in a plastic bag with 12 small circles for Cup Cakes and instructions. My daughter had chosen High School Musical and it had her name printed on it too. They were really clear and the picture of Sharpey was really good.

Making the Fairy Cakes

Im not that great at baking, so Nicola sent me a fool proof receipe for Cup Cakes. 4 oz SR Flour, 4 oz Caster Sugar, 4 oz Butter & 2 Eggs. I used my new reusable silicone fairy cake holders and they worked really well.

Icing the Fairy Cakes

You need to have the Fairy Cakes as flat on top as possible so you can lay the topper on. So I sliced off the top. Then make the icing, icing sugar & water yum yum.

Putting on the Topper

Whilst I was preparing the Icing I put the Toppers in the freezer for a few minutes. When they are cold enough they just peel off. As it was hot in my kitchen, I had to put them back in the freezer a couple of times. Remove a topper and placed it from the middle of the fairy cake and smooth outward.

Final Result
Well considering Im not good at all at baking, I was very very pleased. The cakes tasted great and most of them looked great with the topper on. The ones that didnt were where I didnt cut it straight enough. My Daughter Loved Them!

Final Thought
I think this is a fantastic idea. Its also a very good price. 12 Fairy Cake Toppers are just 3€uros. Bigger ones from 4.50€ You can make your own cake or just buy one already make. The only thing it needs is some kind of icing on it - either icing sugar or rolled out icing - its up to you.

I have been nearly 7 years and there isnt really much choice for birthday cakes. Its either very creamy Mercadona Ones or you have to go to somewhere like Goyo and pay a fortune. Its not like going to Morrisons where you have a choice of Barbie, Cars, Princesses etc.
I really really like this idea and think its great fun for kids birthday parties, adults, weddings and any other special event.
